With a mountain summit at its centre and management focused on enhancing the natural heritage of its wildflower grasslands, bogs, lochs and woodland it is a great place to ramble over and enjoy contact with nature. Historic Scotland has been particularly active in monitoring, protecting and re-introducing rare or threatened plants identified in the Edinburgh Biodiversity Action Plan, including spring sandwort, sticky catchfly and rock whitebeam.
