About Park

The special charm of the park lies in its old trees

The garden has evolved from the existing since the 13th century estate Linden the family von Alten, which included about 56 hectares of land, hunting rights, jurisdiction and various tithes. In 1688, the family leased the estate to Franz-Ernst von Platen for economic reasons, and Hofmarschall to Duke Ernst August. He needed a manor for a seat in the state parliament and concluded a time-limited contract for the use of the estate. When the 1689 helped him to the intended title of Imperial Count and Prime Minister, he built the estate out. From this developed the settlement Neu-Linden with various facilities such as Meierei, brickyard and oil mill. Von Platen was on his property in 1692 by Brand Westermann to build the baroque castle Linden and at the same time by René Dahuron create a French Baroque garden. These included water basins with fountains, orchards, Heckenbosketten, kitchen gardens, ponds with fish farming and swans, Orangerie and Tiergarten.
