The central green area in Duisburg City

The park was opened to the public in 1925. A text from this period describes the park as a park with a beautiful, mature trees, flower gardens, playgrounds and a Stadtgarten café.

During the Second World War, the park was heavily destroyed. The removal of the damage was accompanied by the purchase of additional land by the city of Duisburg.

At the end of the sixties, the remodeling and further expansion of the park took place.

The spatial arrangement has been adapted to the different interests and demands of the visitors. A dense network of trails now opens up the adventure areas playing and sunbathing areas. Games and sports facilities and flowerbeds with seasonal plantings.

A main focus of this park is the embedding of the sculpture exhibition of the Wilhelm-Lehmbruck-Museum.

On the grounds of the park are 40 sculptures, which are supplemented by temporary exhibitions.
