A popular recreational area for the citizens
The park was inaugurated in 1901, the park's attractions included Schwanenweiher zum Kahnfahren and a children's playground. The city garden has since been continuously expanded. In 1919/20 there was another sports and gymnastics area, in 1925 a large gondola pond and a botanical garden with greenhouses added. In the 1950s, a bird enclosure was opened, which was expanded in 1978 to an outdoor aviary. In the 1950s and 1960s, two large ships were anchored on the gondola, on which a café and a dance company were located.
