A popular destination for families and day-trippers who want to spend their free time in the green during the beautiful months

The Rheydter Höhe was built in 1945 from rubble that had left the bombing of the cities Mönchengladbach and Rheydt. The bombing destroyed 65 percent of the two urban areas. In the 1950s, large amounts of household waste were deposited on the rubble mountain. In order to enable the growth of plants and trees, a humus layer about one to two meters high was added to the household waste. This had the consequence in the 1990s that toxic gas emissions emerged from the rubble, of which today nothing is noticeable. However, some 30 meters in front of the plateau, the viewing plateau, isolated pieces of plastic bags on the serpentine walls, which were cleared away from the rain over time, can be seen.
