The "after work and weekend recreation area"

The Prinzenpark was built in 1895 on the former grounds of the large parade ground. The large parade ground was built in 1824 after an order by Duke Charles II and moved in 1887 to Salzdahlumer Straße. The park was during its creation, although it bordered the residential streets of the Eastern Ring area, already outside the borders of the city of Brunswick. Only a few decades later, an incorporation into the city took place. The realization of the park was sponsored by the regent of the Duchy of Brunswick, Prince Albrecht of Prussia. After him, the park was named. The park was implemented by the Brunswick Ducal Promenade Inspector Friedrich Kreiß according to the plans of the garden director Fintelmann. In 1905 the park was completed. In the fall of 1911, the memorial stone was erected for the regent Prince Albrecht.
