The oldest green areas in the city

Wunderburgpark history of Oldenburg dates back several hundred years. It belongs as a historic park to the oldest green areas of the city and is protected according to Nds.DschG § 3 as a monument to the park.
The name "Wunderburg" comes from the Garden of the Renaissance Count, which was created in the 17th century in the area of the Easter Church. In this factory, there was a garden house with strange equipment: Miracle Castle. At that time, Count Anton Gunter made this garden a gift to his wife the Countess Sophia Katerina von Oldenburg. After her death, in 1696, he was sold and over-planned in another context of his history.
Wunderburgpark was created on the site today of private ownership, which probably belonged to one of the then noble courts in Osternburg. There are important evidence from 1843. Old trees that are known to the garden are still remnants of that time.

In 1849 the old Schützenhof was created in the western parts of the area. I had a restaurant with a shooting gallery. The name of the next day Schützenhofstraße is back to this establishment. This was followed by its other owners, the "German Association of Sanchond" 1918 This has been built in many buildings in the southeast of the country. Later, Herdbuchgesellschaft became Landlord (today Weser-Ems-Union) and henceforth cattle auctions and various commercial uses occurred in this area.

In 1937 the park was handed over to the city of Oldenburg. However, the "Deutsche Verein für Sanitätshunde" (German Association of Healthy Dogs) combined with the surrender condition of the preservation of the neglected park, which was developed into a small orchard, as a public park.

The main restoration of the garden area was carried out in the spring of 1938 under the supervision of the director of urban parks Boru.
In addition to the original wood plants, Rhododendrons and azaleas were planted at the main entrance and the meadows were planted as coral meadows with wild flowers and wild shrubs. The concept of garden repair took into account the old wooden structures. Routing is performed according to the functional requirements of time. Later, the garden office plans to expand the park and playground facility for children, which was created in 1949. Near the end of the Second World War, the old customization park settled in the old Schützenwiese. In 1962, the Dragoon Monument was moved from the main market square in Easterburg to the park.

Wunderburgpark obtained a special status with his designation as a landscape protection area (Decree of 19 February 1947). Through the concept of city planning development, the extension of the park can be considered. The garden extension was completed with the opening on 14 September 2007.
