A historic excursion destination in the south of Darmstadt

Discovered as a tourist destination at the beginning of the 19th century, the flow of visitors increased from year to year. After the construction of a small wooden temple, a massive inn was built in 1838, which was constantly rebuilt and expanded over the years. The excursion destination was crowned by the erection of a 27.5 m [2] high observation tower, the Ludwigsturm, which was donated by Wilhelm Schwab, a founding member of the Darmstadt Bauverein AG. Until the beginning of the Second World War, the Ludwigshöhe was a self-proclaimed health resort and one of the most popular destinations in Germany. A large hotel restaurant with panoramic terrace, Ludwigsturm, music temple, ski jump and a bobsleigh and toboggan run in winter awaited the visitor. During the Second World War, the hotel restaurant was used by the German Air Force of the Wehrmacht and fired by the end of March 1945 by her and blown up.
