Artificial lake in Rome EUR zone

The Central Park of the Lake, informally more than Lake Park of EUR, is a modern green area in Rome where there is an artificial basin located at the intersection of Via Cristoforo Colombo, in the EUR area.

Since the birth of the euro in 1936, it was only practical after the war; the artificial lake rising from the inside was closed on the shorter sides and northwest of the UniCredit Bank building and to the southeast of the ENI Tower; on the sea side, The hill stands at the top of the Palazzo dello Sport, along the optical axis of Via Cristoforo Colombo, and has waterfalls that form the fifth perspective of the palace.

The garden area is about 160,000 square meters, divided equally between the green area and the artificial lake.

    Historical notes and technical data
The Euro 42 project - the world fair to be held in 1942 but never implemented - included an area that has been used as a park since 1937 to divide the roads of Via Imperial (now known as Cristoforo Colombo). The Palazzo dell'Acqua e della Luce (never built, and in any area built in the late 1950s, Palazzo dello Sport in the 17th Olympiad of Rome) is depicted as the "fifth perspective" of visitors from Rome.

The project, which also included a fish pond, included architects Raffaele De Vico and Marcello Piacentini (the last president of the proposed Euro-Works Examination Committee); the area, where the artificial reservoir was planned, although not in the present form, Of a larger project consists of the creation of eight gardens in the new neighborhood. The State Forest Corps was the artistic subject responsible for afforestation and the relevant executive plan. The Executive Working Group was formed on De Vico's advice in 1939, but Italy's entry into the war and the fall of fascism in 1943 ceased.

Waterfall, fountains, and in the background, the sports palace
In the postwar period, De Vico followed the project, in collaboration with Engineer Giorgio Busso, Director of Architectural and Urban Services of the EUR Body, responsible for the hydraulic and structural part. The solution was a one-kilometer-long artificial basin, perpendicular to the Via Imperial road axis - the artery designed to connect Rome with the Lido, built in the post-war period of Via Cristoforo Colombo - with a width of at least 60 to 130 M maximum for a total area of slightly more than eighty thousand square meters; depth varies from one meter to four meters.

The pool with ENI building in the background
The garden surrounding the lake has many of the infrastructure created for the Olympic Games hosted by Rome in 1960: Palazzo dello Sport (1958-1960) is located on the hill overlooking the lake, next to Pier Luigi Nervi and Marcello Piacentini. There is the north-west of the basin Piscina delle Rose (Explanation), which hosted some competitions the Olympic Water Polo Championship.

In particular, the view of the view along the Via Cristoforo Colombo and back to the city shows Palazzo dello Sport overlooking the waterfall, the tributaries of the lake and a series of smaller fountains and side waterfalls. These actions, which were first restructured in 2003 and more in-depth at the end of the decade, have the dual purpose of ensuring the necessary oxygen supply to the pond's ecosystem, as well as to the water system in the province. Referring to the tank known as Fungo, ensuring water supply for fire control systems in adjacent buildings and irrigation systems in the park.

Rome B EUR Palasport Metro Station stops
The two short sides of the pool are to the south-east of ENI (1959-62) and to the north-west by the Umberto Tupini viale and the UniCredit (the headquarters of Banco de Rome).

The pedestrian walkway and bicycle that runs through the park is named "The Japanese Walk" in honor of the state where Nobusuke Keshi, the then Prime Minister, paid an official visit to Italy in July 1959 by donating 2,500 sakura (prunus) serrulata Japanese cherry blossoms, many of which are planted directly in the Euro Garden. In this regard, it is customary to celebrate the typical Japanese customs, Hanami (or "flower adoration"), which occur during the Sakura period (mid-March - early April) and consists of walking under these trees and often strolling in their shadows; Those who celebrate Hanami wearing kimono, a traditional dress from Japan.

    Aquarium under construction in 2009
The original basin project began in 2008, with the construction of the Mediterraneanum by EUR Spa; the construction area along the northern edge of the lake is about 14,000 square meters; originally scheduled for June 2012, the opening was postponed for one year due to technical problems; Until 2017, the plant is not yet available to the public.

Along the northern edge of the park, in viale America, there are 2 stops for the Rome Metro line B: EUR Palasport (originally EUR Marconi), to the right via Cristoforo Colombo and EUR Fermi to the left of the same road; both stations are less than 200 meters Between them began operation on February 9, 1955, the opening day of the first section of the subway in Rome.
