    One of the new urban species

    Built in 1816 on a design by architect L. Mirri to show the "gratitude of Forli's homeland" to Pope Pio VII, the park was part of a collection of works that tended to redevelop the outdoor area around Porta Cotogne. Enlightened in concept, the park was one of the new urban species that was occurring in Europe. In Italy in general, despite the rapid spread of the English plant, the Italian model prevailed and ordered, and therefore more suitable for walking and comfortable carts.

    L. Mirri proposed to the public park a complex design of symmetrical flowering flowers, converging on a vast central area, reinforced by a obelisk surrounded by a fountain with four relative basins and benches;
    The bottom of the garden was characterized by three architectural elements: in the axis with the entrance, a small temple; on the corners, respectively temporary house and Kaffehaus.

    In 1820, G. Missirini designed a portal supported by four columns ending with "Etruscan" statues, and female heads, surmounted by flower vases, unfortunately destroyed in the post-war period. In 1828, after the death of most of the farms and the discontent of the Apostolic Inheritance, the Municipality of Forli decided to proceed with the complete reconstruction of the public park.

    The intervention of the municipal engineer G. Santarelli led to a complete change in the original design: the area of the garden was reduced and raised in order to obtain a better discharge of rainwater; pedestrian roads were divided by those roads that are accessible along different roads; Only one large service, replaces existing buildings, as the backdrop of the large central street and placed on the incremental incremental height of the last part of the park.

    Transformation and expansion studies were not applied in the Fascist fascist period; in the 1970s, on the other hand, the extension extended to the area of Viale Spazzoli, leaving the historical part unchanged.
