    Kalinin Square

The Kalinin Square is a square in the center of Yalta, next to the bridge with two huge light bulbs, in remembrance of the lights out in the Crimea, which occurred in November 2015, after the electric beams in the Kherson region were disrupted, when the Crimea was completely de-energized. It occupies Quay land from Pushkin Street to the intersection of Ekaterininskaya Street, and has an area of 2.25 hectares. The square was built on the site where it was located until 1944 Jalita Hotel and Horn Cinema. Also installed a memorial to the Crimean Tatars who died during the expulsion and died abroad in a yearning for their homeland in the square.

Above the square is dominated by eastern forest (height 27 m), Chinar. The thick spherical crown, 24 meters in diameter, can be seen clearly from ships heading to Yalta. This sycamore is a botanical scene: judging by the diameter of the trunk (120 cm), more than 170 years old.

The history of the square begins more or less famous in the 1880s. Here, from the corner of Catherine Street to Pushkin, small Swiss-style cottages were built, united by one name - "Galeta", that is, "Little Yalta." In one of the roles, from June 1901, the newspaper "Yalta leaflet" was printed, and its editor was widely known in the field of AP Chekhov Fanni Karlovna Tatarinova's charity fan. Three years later, the Jalita Publishing House was opened here, which published a book (Memoirs) of talented artist Maria Bashkirtseva. In 1904, LN Tolstoy lived in Jalita's furnished rooms for several days, traveling with his family via Yalta to Gaspra to the Countess Panina building.
