About Park

  • Preview

It is an early Baroque villa of luxurious size

The castle is also famous for its water games (jeux d'eau) in the gardens, which are famous sights in the summer months. These games, designed by Marcus Citicus, are a man with a very playful spirit, as a series of practical jokes that guests must implement. Notable features include stone benches around the stone dining table through which the water channel conveys water to the guest seat when the mechanism is activated, and hidden fountains that surprise guests and sprinkle them while participating in the tour. Other features include a musical theater, musical operation, and music operation built in 1750, including about 200 automatic programs that show many occupations at work, a grotto and a crown pushed up and down by a water jet, symbolizing the rise and fall of power, in all of these Games, there is always a spot that is never wet: the archbishop used to stand or sit, with no canal and which is occupied today by the tour guide.

Hellbrunn stands in a large park with a neighboring zoo, stone theater, and small building known as the Castle of the Month or "Little Month Palace", where it was built during a one-month period after a visitor to Sittikus commented that building on the hill would improve the view from one of schloss windows. The Archbishop cared for his advice, and when the visitor came back a month later, Monthschlössl was built. It now houses the ethnographic section of the Carolina Augustim Museum in Salzburg.
