A landmark element of the city
A landmark element of the city is the small Sandtorpark, around which most of the buildings are grouped. It was inaugurated in April 2011 as the first green area of HafenCity with a neighborhood party. Its design is characterized by green play areas on meadows and hills. Important design elements of the Magellan Terraces (like the paving) are continued here. The office EMBT from Barcelona, which is responsible for the open space concept of the western HafenCity, succeeds in bridging the different areas. Since August 2013, the 7,100 m2 Grasbrookpark has also been completed. As a large green play park with many student-designed play and leisure facilities for children and adults, it forms the southern interface to Quartier Strandkai.
