An observation tower which grants panoramic views of the surrounding area

The Rosental is one of the most popular historic parks in Leipzig. August the Strong, who ruled in Saxony from 1694, wanted to build a pleasure palace at this point, but this was trickily prevented by Leipzig City Fathers. From the Great Meadow there are still six viewing corridors that were created for the castle.

With the careful transformation of the baroque grounds into an English-style landscape park, designed by the later council gardener Rudolph Siebeck, parts of the Rosental valley could still be preserved as an original floodplain forest with a large variety of animal and plant species.

The existing 12-meter-high flagpole at the end of Rosentalgasse was built around 1892 to a design by the architect Schmidt. As a design accent, he emphasizes the entrance area of the Rosental.
