About Park

  • Preview

It is a public park containing various types of rhododendron, located in the county of Haaga in Helsinki, Finland

The beauty of flowers varies with each year. Generally a good year followed by a more modest year. Pine trees create an umbrella for flowering plants. Thousands of Helsinki residents and gardening enthusiasts visit the park every year to see the scenery.

Rodendron Park is the only park in Helsinki that has special stands for enjoying exotic flowers. The viewing platform forms in the rhododendron section as a bridge, allowing visitors to fully admire the flowers of tall plants. There are also hiking paths across the park which are fully accessible by wheelchair. Garden structures and marking were renovated in 2009. All signs are now in Finnish, Swedish and English.

More than ten species of rhododendron that grow in Finland have been selected for commercial production. Rhododendron Park has provided eight of these: 'Haaga', 'University of Helsinki', 'St. Michael', b. M. a. Tigerstedt, "Axel Tigerstedt", "Pekka", "Eino" and "Mauritz". The original plants continue to grow in the garden.
