A green space of the 11th arrondissement of Paris
The square was opened in 1872 on the site of the old slaughterhouses of Ménilmontant, destroyed in 1867. It then bears the name of "square Parmentier". It is renamed after the Second World War named Maurice Gardette2,3, resistant and councilor of the district, shot in 1941.
